Magreth Mushi, PhD

Department of Computer Science, North Carolina State University, NC

I am a Research Associate in the Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University (NCSU) since August 2021. Before joining NCSU I was TERNET’s Chief Executive Officer since April 2017 and a Faculty at Open University of Tanzania. I graduated my PhD from NCSU with the support of Fulbright, Google Anita Borg, and Schlumberger Scholarships between 2012-2016. I got my master’s and bachelor’s in computer science both from University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2005 and 2008 respectively. My research interests are in broad areas of computer networks and security including but not limited to resilient network infrastructure, Software Defined Networks, communications and networking with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and heterogeneous wireless networks. I am also engaging with the newly emerging area of Quantum Networks where I seek to foster my research in networking.

Outside my formal duties I couch other women and mentor girls. I founded Big Sister in STEM (BigSiS) group in Tanzania where we conduct 1-1 mentoring for secondary school girls. I am also a Board member and mentor at More Active Girls in Computing (MAGIC), an NGO based in California and dedicated to mentoring middle and high school girls.  (Short Bio)
